Description
For your consideration is this 65 piece F. Legrand & Cie. (Company) porcelain dinner service for four. This charming service features pink rose sways, embossed edge, a rose medallion in the center, and gold trimmed scalloped edges. The bottoms are marked with F. Legrand’s circular mark with a star inside and the words “Limoges, France”, dating this set to between 1919-1922. Pieces are also marked with the decorator’s mark: “BTCo. Limoges France” inside a shield and under a crown. This is unique as typically one finds this mark without the words “Limoges France”, but has “Germany” written under it. There is only one piece (noted below) that is NOT marked like this, but rather with “National China”’s mark. Other than this piece, there is no crazing at all. Chips/cracks are noted below. This is a full service for four set plus many extras. In this set you will receive:
- (8) Dinner Plates. 9”. One plate has a chip in the rim.
- (11) Luncheon Plates. 8 ½”. One plate has a chip out of the rim, one plate has staining on the back, two plates have what appears like “fingernail” indentations (probably manufacturing defects).
- (9) Soup Bowls. 7 ½”. Two plates have minor nicks. One on the front rim, one on the bottom rim.
- (10) Bread & Butter Plates. 5 ½”. One has a crack in the center. Two have slight chips. Another one has a chip that leads to a crack.
- (9) Fruit Bowls/Dessert Bowls. 5 ½”. One has a crack in the rim.
- (5) Flat Teacups.3 ¼” diameter (not counting handle). Handles are gilt.
- (8) Teacup Saucers. 5 ½”.
- (1) Small Bowl. 5 ¾”. Has a crack leading down from the rim.
- (1 Set) Gravy Boat and Underplate. Boat is slightly stained inside. Boat: 6 ¾” x 3 ½” wide. 2 ½” tall. Underplate: 9 ½” x 5”.
- (1 Set) Covered Handled Casserole. 8 ½”. NOTE: This is a mismatched set. While the cover is obviously part of the set, the bottom is NOT Legrand. Rather it is marked “National China Salineville Ohio”. It is highly crazed and shows gilt loss. The cover is meant for a smaller diameter mouth, but works with the bottom. The lid’s handle is gilt and in nice condition.
- (1) Small Oval Serving Platter. 14 ¾” x 10”. Two small chips in rim.
- (1) Large Oval Serving Platter. 17 ¼” x 12”. One chip on base underneath.
