For your consideration is this beautiful antique Swiss-made Phenix pocket watch.
The case is of what appears to be nickel silver and is ornately decorated with scrollwork and flowers.
The dial measures about 40mm and may be size 13s. There is a marking at the bottom that reads ‘Importe De Suisse’ or imported from Switzerland. The chapters are in black Roman numerals 1-12 with red Arabic numbers from 13-24. The minute markers are raised gold applications with a diamond shape at every fifth minute. The hands are brass colored and very ornate, featuring a gothic style that was in vogue with European watches around the turn of the century.
The inside of the case is marked with the Phenix name and logo, serial number 63334 45. The movement cover is inscribed ‘Cylindee 10 Rubis’ or cylinder escapement 10 jewels.
The movement is marked with the Phenix logo, ‘Depose’ and some numbers. There appears to be a broken spring.
The case has signs of wear, such as scratches where someone used a tool to open the case back, and the hinge for the rear cover has a crack running halfway across the shaft. The dial has some chips along the edges, though these are not noticeable with the front cover closed. The beveled crystal is in good condition.
