For your consideration is this vintage Model 1852 USN Navy Officer’s Ceremonial Sword. The sword blade measures 32” and the sword is 37 ½” overall. The sword and scabbard feature gilt brass. The hilt also has stingray skin with gilt wires around the grip. The blade and hilt feature traditional Navy symbols such as sea serpents, anchors, 13 stars, the bald eagle and “USN”. This blade is NOT marked with a maker’s mark. The blade is unsharpened (this is one way to distinguish from modern makers who often sharpen the blade) and other than the slight loss on the tip, it shows no nicks. We have NOT cleaned or polished the blade. The hit shows minor gilt wear, but very little brassing otherwise. The leather scabbard is rubbed in areas but it otherwise strong. A small section of stitching is loose near the chape. The chape has a small dent in it. Please see the photos for more details.
