Time to go back to school with this antique double-sided school slate. It measures about 6 3/4″ x 8 3/4″. Along the top of one side is the National School Slate Company / Extra Special / Slatington, Penn USA mark. The bottom is marked First Quality. Both stamps are light and hard to read. The National School Slate Company of Slatington, Pennsylvania, a firm established in 1884 that operated until 1970, yet use of slates was mostly over in the early 1900’s. The slate in this piece has some scratching and wear that is consistent with use. Please see photos for more detail.
