Description
This RFD (Rural Free Delivery) Mail Padlock is in nice condition. Unfortunately, we have no key for it. The body is 2″ with shank x 1 1/2″. The body has “RFD” on one side and “MAIL” on the other. It has an 6 3/4″ chain. Rural Free Delivery was started as an experiment by the US Postal Service in 1890 but didn’t really get support until almost 1900. Some patrons purchased RFD locks for their mailboxes, which was fine as long as the delivery person had a key. Please see photos for more detail.
