Description
For your consideration is antique silver plate butter dish by Reed & Barton of Taunton, Massachusetts circa 1880. This dish comes in three parts with a footed dish that holds ice or hot water, an insert to lay on top of the ice to place the butter and a lid. The lid has a sculpted cow as a finial handle and is in a layered dome shape with ornate engravings. The dish has four raised up feet and two handles, a butter knife holder and four sculpted Roman Soldiers with armor and shields standing at attention around the exterior of the dish. The bottom of the dish is engraved as “Design Pat. Jan 12 1869”. This piece has some dings and wear to it. The knife rest is broken in one spot. The cow appears to have a few minor losses on the tail and horns. The piece has an aged patina that can be polished. Please see the pictures for more detail.
