Exquisite Ca. 1895 Ornate Cherub Motif Heavy Iron Clock front Plate | 22426

Description

For your consideration is this beautiful ornate 19th-century iron clock front plate.

This features a scene depicting a trio of youthful cherubs haunting about a grape vineyard, with grape clusters and foliage thickly draping the margins.

There is a window of brass and glass in the lower portion, which would allow viewing the movement/pendulum of a clock.

The opening for the clock dial measures about 4 3/4″ in diameter.

This work of iron measures about 14″ in width and 18 1/4″ in height.

This would be amazing when fitted with a clock movement or repurposed as an interesting and unique photo frame.

This appears to have been refinished, with an antique bronze finish on the front and bright gold on the rear. This has been applied very well, with no cracks or bubbles noted. There are two places at the rear where the movement would be attached that have not been refinished, in these places the original iron finish may be viewed, complete with some oxidation from over a century of previous enjoyment.
