Description

For your consideration is this antique photo lot of 5 Mack Sennett bathing beauty, Marie Provost. They were taken in the 1910’s to 1920’s. These are all stamped with Evans LA and Mack Sennett Comedies.

The bathing beauties were pin-up girls for the soldiers of the First World War. Sennett was a Canadian-born American director and actor and was known as an innovator of slapstick comedy in film. These are of silent film actress Marie Provost. She was discovered by Mack Sennett who signed her to contract and made her one of his “Bathing Beauties” in the late 1910s. She then went on to sign on with Universal and Warner Bros. After years of drinking, Prevost died of acute alcoholism at the age of 38. Her death prompted the Hollywood community to create the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital.

These are original blank back cards which measure 3 1/4” X 5 1/4”. There is some discoloration on all the cards.
