Description
For your consideration is this very interesting 19th-century medical steam atomizer device.
This bears the name Codman & Shurtleff, a well-known maker of early medical devices and quackery. There are also some patent dates, the latest of which is from way back in the year 1800 and 69 (1869).
The burner still has some wick remaining. This must have been used at some point, as there is old blackening to the bottom of the brass canister.
This piece is in quite good condition for the antique status it enjoys. there is some finish wear/loss to the metal parts and there appear to be some missing pieces. The wooden case has some finish wear and a crack in the front panel.
The wooden case is constructed of pine and in the tongue and groove style. This measures about 8″ x 8″ x 5 1/2″.
Please see the photos for more detail on this wonderful old bit of medical history.
