For your consideration is this hand carved wooden mask/headdress from the Yoruba Tribe of Nigeria. The mask appears to have a red base color with a dark blackish brown covering over the top and bits of red showing through in some areas. It appears to be animal themed with what looks like a rabbit and a lizard. This mask was possibly worn in their Gelede masked dance or for the tribe healer to drive away evil spirits. It measures about 12 1/4″ tall by 12″ deep by 8″ wide. This mask is solid with an aged patina. It has a few broken off pieces, however this does not distort the overall design. Please see the pictures for more details.
