For your consideration is this very unique berry bowl made in Germany specifically for the Plankinton House hotel in Milwaukee Wisconsin ca 1876.

This beautiful bowl has 5 red and green stripes around the inside, ending in fanciful red 19th century script initials “Ph” within a green wreath. This stands for “Plankinton House”, whom the dish was created for. The bowl is 7.5” in diameter, 1.5” deep and has 6 small holes manufactured into the bottom. It also has 4 indents in the bottom to allow water to drain off of and away from the berries.

The underside is imprinted in an orange ink, “Made especially for Plankinton House by Bauscher Bros. Weiden, Germany”. Also impressed on the bottom is the oval “Bauscher Weiden” mark which is about half visible, the numbers “1 9” and a small mark that looks like an “S”.

The Plankinton House hotel in Milwaukee Wisconsin was built in 1876 and was a thriving hi-class hotel for many years with several dining areas.

Condition: There are a few small chips on the top edge.
